THE CHALLENGE: To take their successful enterprise GIS software package to the next level, ESRI needed to bring in an experienced Product Management leader. However, the company had little experience in recruiting executives of this caliber from outside its management ranks.
The successful candidate would need to possess strong product management process and methods knowledge, plus exceptional people management skills. In addition he or she would need to fit well with ESRI’s unique culture and Southern California location.

The position description led us to recruit highly technical professionals from large enterprise software firms that had experience leading and championing product management. Sensitive to the demands of the ESRI culture, we focused on individuals with very low career turnover who could win the hearts and minds of an established organization. As a result, we recruited and relocated a successful “A” company software executive who quickly integrated into ESRI’s culture and made an immediate, positive impact in the organization.
